  21. This application links the Psion Organiser II with RISCáOS computers.  
  22. It requires the Psion Comms Link and an adaptor cable, wired as 
  23. detailed below.
  24.  
  25. !PsionLink only works from the desktop, there are no '*' commands 
  26. available from the command line.
  27.  
  28. The following files should be contained in the !PsionLink application 
  29. directory:

  46. Load the application by double clicking on the icon, this installs the 
  47. 'Psion' icon on the left hand side of the icon bar.
  48.  
  49.  
  50. Serial Settings
  51. ---------------

  53. These should be set on the RISC OS machine to match the ones set on 
  54. the Psion's Comms Link.  This is done by using the 'Serial Setup' 
  55. window selected from the !PsionLink iconbar menu.  This window is 
  56. displayed either by clicking the item on the menu or by moving the 
  57. mouse to the right of the menu text.  Note that DTR handshaking is not 
  58. an option and should not be selected on the Psion.  
  59.  
  60. The settings on the RISC OS computer can be saved using the 'Save 
  61. Setup' option on the iconbar menu.  Once saved, these settings will be 
  62. the initial ones used every time that !PsionLink is loaded.  They are 
  63. stored in the file 'Settings' within the application's directory.  If 
  64. this file is not present, default settings, to match the Psion 
  65. defaults, will be used.
  66.  
  67. RISC OS 3.10 users may find that transfers are not successful at 9600 
  68. baud and that Xon/Xoff must be set to 'On' at higher speeds.
  69.  
  70. Acorn's replacement Serial Device Driver module 0.22 is included in 
  71. the application and loaded with !PsionLink.  Without it random chunks 
  72. of files transferred will disappear on older machines running RISC OS 
  73. 3.10.  This problem can still occur at higher speeds on these machines 
  74. when transferring to floppy discs.  For safety you should transfer to 
  75. a hard disc or a ram disc and copy the file to a floppy.  If you don't 
  76. need the module it can be removed by editing the !Run file.

  79. Sending a file to the Psion
  80. ---------------------------

  82. Sending a file from the RISC OS machine can be started in three ways:
  83.  
  84. 1. By dragging a file of type 'Psion' (&0FE) or 'Text' (&FFF) onto the 
  85. !PsionLink iconbar icon.
  86.  
  87. 2. By double clicking on a file of type 'Psion' in a directory window.  
  88. This only works if the Filer has seen the !PsionLink application 
  89. first.
  90.  
  91. 3. By dragging an icon of type 'Psion' or 'Text' from the save window 
  92. of another RISC OS application to the !PsionLink icon on the iconbar.
  93.  
  94. In all cases an 'Export' window will be displayed and you should 
  95. follow the instructions in the large top icon.  Broadly you set the 
  96. Psion to receive a file and then click on the 'Start' icon in the 
  97. export window.

  99. Rather than transferring a file to a Psion datapak you should transfer 
  100. it into the Psion's ram memory (A:) and then copy it to the datapak.

  103. Receiving a file from the Psion
  104. -------------------------------

  106. This can be initiated on the RISC OS machine in three ways:
  107.  
  108. 1. By entering a full RISC OS pathname into the name icon of the 
  109. iconbar 'Import File' menu window and clicking on 'OK'.
  110.  
  111. 2. By dragging the 'Psion' icon from the 'Import File' window into a 
  112. Filer directory viewer.
  113.  
  114. 3. By dragging the 'Psion' icon from the 'Import File' window onto 
  115. another RISC OS application's iconbar icon or into another 
  116. application's window.
  117.  
  118. In each case an 'Import' window is displayed while the transfer takes 
  119. place, with instructions appearing in the large top icon.  Broadly the 
  120. procedure is to set !PsionLink ready to receive then set the Psion to 
  121. transmit the file.

  124. Connections
  125. -----------

  127. The Psion Comms Link comes with a 25 pin female D-plug to fit the 
  128. original PC.  A converter lead has to be made with a 25-pin male 
  129. D-plug to connect it to the RISC OS machine via a 9-pin female D-plug.

  141. On the 9-pin plug pins 1, 4 and 8 should be connected together and on 
  142. the 25-pin plug pins 6 and 19 need to be connected.

  145. Sprite Dragging
  146. ---------------
  147.  
  148. RISC OS 3 has a 'Drag A Sprite' module which allows solid spites to be 
  149. dragged from file save windows rather than the standard dotted box.  
  150. !PsionLink will use this facility if the module is present, and if 
  151. RISC OS is configured for this to happen.  This facility is not one of 
  152. the options available from the !Configure Application so two simple 
  153. programmes are provided to configure this facility, they are in the 
  154. directory 'DragOption' inside this application directory.  Double 
  155. click on the appropriate file to set the option on or off.  
  156.  
  157. This does not stop !PsionLink from operating as normal under 
  158. RISCáOSá2.

  161. Appearance
  162. ----------

  164. !PsionLink uses the new style 3D icons with RISC OS 3.10 or higher, 
  165. otherwise standard 2D icons will be used in all of the windows.

  171. Version 2 will be supplied by the author upon receipt of a 
  172. registration cheque for ú5.  Version 2 uses outline fonts for RISC OS 
  173. 3.10 and later, and has a number of other enhancements.
